Twelve Days of Muppet Christmas, Part 2
Emmet Otter’s Jug-Band Christmas (1977)
Directed by Jim Henson
Written by Jerry Juhl
Jerry Nelson (Emmet Otter), Marilyn Sokol (Ma Otter [voice]), Jim Henson (Kermit the Frog, Harvey Woodchuck), Frank Oz (Chuck Stoat, Ma Otter [puppetry]), Richard Hunt (Charlie Muskrat), and Dave Goelz (Wendell Porcupine)
Emmet Otter’s Jug-Band Christmas aired on HBO in 1977 and ABC in 1980. Narrated by Kermit the Frog and starring Emmet Otter and his mother during Christmas, Emmet Otter’s Jug-Band Christmas features Emmet and his friends in Frogtown Hollow. Down on their luck, the two enter into the Frogtown Hollow talent competition without telling one another. The villainous Riverbottom Nightmare Band also causes trouble. Songs for the special were written by Paul Williams and included “Barbecue,” “Ain’t No Hole in the Washtub,” “The Bathing Suit That Grandma Otter Wore,” “Riverbottom Nightmare Band,” and the perennial classic “When the River Meets the Sea.”
